What'd'ya say? Who can't hear

Link: QuickStats: Percentage of Adults* Who Reported Being Deaf or Having a Lot of Trouble Hearing Without a Hearing Aid, by Sex and Age Group --- United States, 2003.
These are the latest national data on hearing problems among Americans. Not suprisingly, the prevalence of hearing loss increases with age. What's interesting is how much harder deafness hits men. Among people aged 65 to 74, hearing diffiulties are more than twice as common in men than women. I wonder if it's something inherent in men or a function of men having more occupational or recreational exposure to loud noises that lead to hearing loss?
