It's been reported that Facebook is adding a feature that will allow a person's Facebook buddies to report that person's possible suicidal behavior. That will trigger an email to the person from Facebook, urging him/her to call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline and/or to click a link for an online chat with a counselor. Read more here. Intrusive? Yes. Better than doing nothing? Absolutely.
