Did you know that psychologists have determined that modern man has new, modern emotions? Me neither. I'm not sure I could have named the Big Six as they're called: joy, sadness, anger, fear, surprise and disgust. New Scientist, a very cool science/technology magazine, runs an interesting piece this week by Jessica Griggs about emotions that researchers believe may become more prominent and/or important in our more "subtle" world than they were in the pre-industrial world of our great-grandparents or the days when our ancestors evaded saber-tooth cats. Candidates for inclusion in the Big Eight, Ten, Twelve--however many--include: elevation, interest, gratitude, pride, and confusion. It's a good story.
